MPI für Kohlenforschung in cooperation with Karl-Ziegler Gymnasium: PhD students supervise chemistry project days on renewable energies

When the oil age comes to an end: research radar "Energiewende" is the name of a school project that young scientists at the Max-Planck Institut für Kohlenforschung have now carried out at the Karl-Ziegler Gymnasium in Mülheim. On two days, the doctoral students supervised experiments with small groups of pupils from grades 9 to 11, gave lectures on the subject of energy system transformation and were available to answer questions. The pupils were able to choose topics such as batteries, fossil fuels, alternative energies or hydrogen, which they got to know and researched in two mornings. For this purpose, the MPI brought along many illustrative objects such as a fuel cell car, a wind turbine model, a hydro-powered car, which could be tried out and illustrated the learning contents.
