Dr. Josep Cornellà receives OMCOS 22 Award for early-career achievements
Dr. Josep Cornellà receives the OMCOS22 Award for his contributions to organometallic chemistry and will give a lecture at the OMCOS XXII symposium in Japan.
Dr. Josep Cornellà, group leader at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung, has won the OMCOS 22 Award, which recognises his outstanding contributions to organometallic chemistry. The award is regarded as one of the most prestigious honours in organometallic chemistry for early-career scientists. As part of the award ceremony, Cornellà will give a lecture at the “22nd International Symposium on Organometallic Chemistry Directed towards Organic Synthesis” (OMCOS XXII) that takes place in Japan in September.
Cornellà’s research focuses on the development of catalytic strategies that enable fast, efficient and sustainable methods for organic synthesis. Specifically, one of the main research topics involve in the design and development of bismuth-based catalysts for organic synthesis. Cornellà and his group at the Kohlenforschung have demonstrated that this element can perform redox transformations equally and beyond transition metals. These systems offer promising alternatives to conventional noble-metal catalysts, combining performance with improved environmental compatibility.
The awardees must be nominated and are selected by the International Advisory Board of the OMCOS depending on their scientific contributions. Past recipients have gone on to shape major developments in catalysis and synthesis worldwide. Aim of the conference in September is to bring research and industry together to discuss the latest developments in metal-mediated and metal-catalysed reactions. The symposium is held every two years, rotating between the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
