Chemical laboratory technician (Chemielaborant/in)
The essential task of the chemical laboratory technician is to carry out experiments, syntheses and analyses. The experimental data obtained are compiled in protocols. Trainees are introduced to the working techniques of a preparative-oriented laboratory. This includes filtration, centrifugation, extraction and distillation.
Chemical laboratory technicians will be familiarized with the latest spectroscopic and chromatographic analysis methods. During the training, apprentices are involved in the work of the various scientific and analytical working groups. In addition we have a modern teaching laboratory where the exam-relevant training contents are taught.
As this is a dual training program, the vocational school takes place in the form of block instruction at the Berufskolleg Stadtmitte, which is close to the institute. Additional in-depth instruction is provided at the institute by trained instructors.
Prerequisites are FOR (Fachoberschulereife) with qualification for the upper school (Oberstufe), FHR (Fachhochschulreife) or high school graduation (Abitur).
Technicians should also have a good spoken and written command of the English language, work well in a team and enjoy dealing with people from different cultural backgrounds.
The newly structured training is divided into two sections: after 2 years of basics, you will take part 1 of the final examination. This is followed by a more in-depth course which ends after 1 1/2 years with part 2 of the final examination. In case of above-average performance at the institute and the vocational school, training can be shortened to 3 years.
